Akira Heights SE18
Reaching new heights
Akira Heights is a new feature in the skyline of the London Borough of Greenwich. This visionary 18-storey tower and linear block in Plumstead boasts affordable, ultra modern apartments that provide stylish accommodation in one of London’s most vibrant areas. The new block is designed to be eco-friendly, heated partly by a biomass boiler and with a living roof on the lower terraces, planted with sedum.
Akira Heights is in the midst of the Greenwich borough, a part of South East London, which is rich in culture and spirit. Georgian and Victorian architecture dominate the town centre and this elegance extends west of the park to the Royal Naval College. At the junction of Croom's Hill with Nevada Street, is the Greenwich Theatre, formerly Crowder's Music Hall.
Greenwich is ideal for socializing with its cosy pubs and intimate eating places. A new local shopping centre is also being built to complement the bustling high street and the lively, colourful street markets already in the area. New restaurants, bars and stylish boutiques are springing up as Greenwich gears up for the 2012 Olympics. This is a place where local people take pride in being part of a global village.
Something for everyone
Greenwich is situated on the south bank of the River Thames and is best known for it maritime history. Maritime Greenwich is a World Heritage Site famous for the inspirational architecture of Sir Christopher Wren, who designed the Old Royal Naval College. It has historic landmarks such as the National Maritime Museum. Near to Central London yet close to the tranquil open spaces and breathtaking views, Greenwich is a place of contrasts.
Greenwich Park was laid out in the 17th century and formed the hunting grounds of the Royal Palace of Placentia. Within the park is the former Royal Observatory, Greenwich and the Prime Meridian passes through the building. Greenwich is, of course, the home of Greenwich Mean Time, which used to be based on the time observations made at the Observatory. While Greenwich no longer hosts a working astronomical observatory, a ball still drops daily to mark the exact moment of 1 pm.
Greenwich 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games
London is proud to be hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with Maritime Greenwich providing one of the host venues. Equestrian events will take place in Greenwich Park and spectators will be able to enjoy the competitions set against the stunning backdrop of the Queen's House and the Old Royal Naval College.
